Example of solving a Radical Equation that becomes a quadratic equation.
  • How do you solve an equation with a radical in it?
  • How do you solve and check sqrt(x - 4) + x = 6?
  • How do you solve and check sqrt(x + 2) + 4 = x?
  • How do you solve and check x - 4 = 36 - 12x + x^2?
  • How do you solve and check x + 2 = x^2 - 8x + 16?
  • How do you convert a radical equation into a quadratic equation?
This lesson shows how to go from a radical equation to a quadratic equation by squaring both sides after isolating the radical. Then, once you obtain the quadratic equation in standard form, you can solve it using one of several different methods. Finally, you can check your solution, which is especially important when you started off with a radical. All steps involved in solving two different equations are shown.
