Examples of dividing rational expressions by first multiplying by the reciprocal, and then factoring the numerators and denominators in order to cancel factors to reduce the rational expression to a simplified form.

  • How do you divide and simplify rational expressions?
  • How do you divide fractions?
  • What is a/b divided by c/d?
  • How do you divide ((12x^3y)/7)/((9x^2)/14y^3)?
  • How do you factor, divide, and simplify complex rational expressions such as ((2x^2 - 3x - 20)/(2x^2 - 7x - 30))/((2x^2 - 5x - 12)/(4x^2 + 12x + 9))?
  • How do you factor, divide, and simplify ((x - 3)/(2 - x))/((x^2 + 3x - 18)/(x^2 + 2x - 8))?
This lesson picks up from the last one, but instead of multiplying complex rational expressions, we are now dividing them. It turns out that this is very similar to just multiplying rational expressions. Several good examples are shown step by step.
