Part 2 of negative exponents and how to simplify expressions with negative exponents.

  • What is the quotient rule for exponents?
  • How can you get rid of negative exponents?
  • Can you subtract the exponent in the denominator minus the exponent in the numerator and put the answer in the denominator?
  • How do you simplify (a/b)^-n?
  • What is an easy way of simplifying (3/4)^-2?
  • How can you simplify m/m^-3 using laws of exponents?
  • How can you add 2^-3 + 2^-2?
  • How can you simplify (x^2)^8x^-4/x^10?
  • How can you simplify 15x^-3m^3/10x^-8m?
This lesson shows a different way of thinking about the quotient rule for exponents -- this time, we look at subtracting the bottom exponent minus the top exponent and putting the answer in the denominator. A couple of different methods of simplifying expressions are shown on many example problems. The examples done start to get more challenging as this lesson goes on.
