Subtracting two mixed numbers
  • How do you subtract two mixed numbers if they don't have the same common denominator in the fraction part?
  • How do you subtract 5 3/4 - 2 3/16?
  • How do you subtract mixed numbers without converting them to improper fractions?
This lesson shows how to subtract mixed numbers by subtracting the whole numbers and then finding a common denominator and subtracting the fractional parts. This is alternate method to converting the mixed numbers into improper fractions. They are never converted but simply subtracted as they are.
