Learn some applications of proportions and how to use proportions to solve everyday problems.

  • How can proportions be used in real life?
  • What is an application of proportions?
  • If the ratio of students who used a tutoring service to those who did not was 3 to 8, and the number of students who did not use the lab was 15 more than the number who did, how many students use the service and how many did not?
  • How do you set up a rational equation to solve a word problem?
  • How do you solve 3/8 = x/(x+15) by cross multiplying?
This lesson uses proportions to show an application of how they can be used. All steps are shown in this application of finding the number of students who used a tutoring service. An algebraic proportion is set up and solved in this video.
