Example of solving a Rational Equation that becomes a quadratic equation.
  • How do you solve a rational equation with variables in the denominators?
  • How do you solve 11/(2x^2 + x - 15) = 5/(2x - 5) - x/(x + 3)?
  • How do you eliminate the denominators of a rational equation with variables?
  • How do you solve a rational equation by turning it into a quadratic equation and using the quadratic formula?
  • How do you solve x^2 - 5x - 2 = 0 using the quadratic formula?
This lesson shows how to get rid of fractions from a rational equation with polynomial expressions in the denominators of each term. After multiplying by the least common denominator and simplifying, a quadratic equation results. You then just have to solve the quadratic equation. This is a great tutorial for a somewhat involved problem.
